What do you do?
I'm a college student, literature major. Should I mention "my job" I could be talking about the writing center (formerly gopher girl, soon to be tutor), the homeless shelter, or my odd waitressing job over the summer.

Where did you get this name? It has no reference to the Lord of the Rings or Robert Jordan.
I was thinking of imdb.com when I wrote it. So, yes, internet Amanda database. Cute, no? Well, I think it's cute!

What is your family like?
I love them, and I think they define the word "eccentric." We should be featured in Encarta. And that makes us cool.

What are your friends like?
They're awesome and I love them to death.
London:
How is the city?
Very nice. Somewhat chilly, 4 out of 5 days seem to be rainy, the streets are rather busy, but the architecture is beautiful and there's always something new to experience (so far, at least).

How is your host family?
They're really cordial. I have freedom to come and go virtually as I please, dinner is served at 7 (sometimes 8 or 8:30), I have my own key, my own bedroom, currently my own bathroom and floor (Argentinian and Spanish students are scheduled to be in and out during February though), and a tv in my room. My duvet (like the child of a bedspread and a quilt) is extremely comfy. Mrs. Martin does my laundry even though I offered to do it myself. Should I want to come home late, I am to call and dinner will be left to be microwaved.

How is the food?
Honestly, I haven't eaten out too much. Twice, actually. I had fish 'n chips, wasn't impressed, but it wasn't a traditional English pub either. I also had pizza at one place, and I will die happy if I never eat that again. There are lots of tasty things to buy in the supermarkets though. They have something called "high juice" that's concentrate juice in a bottle that you mix with water. The peach is super tasty. Also, Cadbury chocolate is to die for.

How are your classes?
Great, so far. Modern art we have lecture one week, visit a gallery the next, and so on. History has no required readings, just lecture and optional material. London's Underworlds will require a bit of out of class work, but I do need something to do, and all of our text is on CD-rom. I will know about British pop culture tomorrow.

Will you bring me back a hot Brit of the gender of my choice?
No.

Are you traveling anywhere else?
I've been thinking Prague, and I just found a "teach yourself Czech" book in the program library, so it could be a sign. I also want to get out to the countryside and to Ireland and Scotland.
